Individualized surgical treatment in patients with advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumor — a case series
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this case series we present the cases of two patients at a metastatic stage stomach gastrointestinal stromal tumor, who received treatment with imatinib. After period disease stability showed signs resistance to first-line therapy and despite promising switch sunitinib, developed life-threatening complications. Salvage surgeries were performed, aimed preserving life simultaneously reducing tumor mass. Operation greatly improved condition allowed for successful continuation tyrosine kinase inhibitor treatment, showing that surgery should be considered viable complement chemotherapeutical treatment.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumor is the most common mesenchymal tumor in the gastrointestinal tract and is most frequently developed in the stomach in the form of submucosal tumor. The incidence of gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumor is estimated to be as high as 25% of the population when all small and asymptomatic tumors are included. Because gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumor is not com...
متن کاملClinical activity of sorafenib in patients with advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumor bearing PDGFRA exon 18 mutation: a case series.
PDGFRA is mutated in 5%–10% of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), the PDGFRA D842V mutation accounting for 60% of all PDGFRA mutations known in GISTs [1]. The DIMH842–845 and the IMH843–846 deletions represent 15% of all PDGFRA mutations. While the latter have been associated with sensitivity to imatinib, the PDGFRA D842V mutation confers primary resistance to imatinib [1–4], sunitinib [5...
متن کاملDesmin expression by a gastrointestinal stromal tumor in a dog
This report describes the histological and immunohistochemical features of a small intestinal tumor that resembled a human gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GISTs) in a seven-year-old male cross-breed dog. This was unique because of the expression of desmin by the tumor. Grossly, the white-gray tumor measured 8.0 × 4.0 × 6.5 cm and was 760 gram in weight. It was cystic and enveloped the jejunum. ...
متن کاملGastric Calcifying Fibrous Tumor Resembling Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor: A Case Report
Calcifying fibrous tumor (CFT) is a rare mesenchymal tumor, affecting children and young adults with a predilection for the soft tissue and the abdominal cavity. CFT of the tubular gastrointestinal tract is very rare with less than 20 cases of gastric CFTs reported in English literature. This benign hypocellular fibrosclerotic calcifying lesion can resemble other spindle cell tumors particularl...
